How much does an appraisal cost?
  • Fees are based on a published price list and are not based on the value of the item(s) being appraised
  • Fees are calculated based on factors such as the number of items, complexity of research required, and gemstone size. Larger or rarer pieces that require more detailed research may adjust the overall fee.
  • Other factors to be considered: current market prices, identifying marks, metal quality, and gemstone characteristics.
  • Costs vary but are generally around $150-$200 per item.

What is the difference between carat and karat?

Karat and carat may sound similar, but they measure entirely different things in the world of jewelry:

  • Karat (K): This measures the purity of gold. Pure gold is 24 karats, and lower karat numbers (like 18K or 14K) indicate gold mixed with other metals for durability.

  • Carat (ct): This measures the weight of diamonds and gemstones. One carat equals 200 milligrams, and it’s used to describe the size of the stone.

Think of it this way: karat is about gold’s quality, while carat is about a gem’s weight!

How long will the appraisal take?

A single item may take an hour, while multiple pieces can take a week or more.

Do you offer repairs on damaged jewelry?
